Sabre Squads Take Silver and Bronze

The sabre squads led the way for UNC on Sunday at the U.S Collegiate Squad Championships, with the Carolina men winning silver and the women bronze. In other weapons, UNC was fifth in women's foil and sixth in men's foil,  men's epee and women's epee. The event was hosted by hosted by Ohio State at French Field House in Columbus, Ohio.

The Tar Heel men's sabre squad defeated host Ohio State in the semifinals before falling to Penn in the finals of the four-team field. Representing the Tar Heels were Jonathan Blake, Sam Austin and Jackson Bryant-Comstock, with Nate Wiecha the alternate.

Women's sabre beat Penn in the quarterfinals then lost to Ohio State in the semis to fall to the bronze medal bout, in which the Tar Heels edged Northwestern 45-44. The Tar Heel lineup was Aislinn Klos, Sara Leung and Gillian Litynski, with Vicki Burton as the alternate.

Representing UNC in men's epee were Collins Allison, Maxwell Tice-Lewis and Daniel Giles, with Parker Williams as alternate.

Men's foil for UNC was Harry Adams, Alex Burte and Joseph Alter with Will Woliver-Jones as the alternate.

The women's epee lineup was Kacie Albert, Lidea Shahidi and Allie Mead, with Nancy Smith the alternate.

For women's foil, the lineup was Wynton Wong, Jenna Rodrigues and Heather Van Wallendael, with Sarah Flinn the alternate.
