No. 1 UNC Rolls Past Seton Hall, 17-2
Release: 02/17/2013

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- No. 1 North Carolina used a pair of six-run innings to improve to 2-0 on the year with a 17-2 win over Seton Hall Sunday at Boshamer Stadium.

A pair of freshmen paced the Tar Heels at the plate as Landon Lassiter and Skye Bolt each recorded four hits on the afternoon. Lassiter crossed the plate two times and added a pair of RBIs, while Bolt tallied three RBIs of his own.

Sophomore right-hander Benton Moss earned the win on the mound for the Tar Heels as he threw five innings of one-run ball. Moss struck out seven and surrendered just two hits but issued four walks on the day.

Colin Moran notched a pair of hits for the Tar Heels, drove in a pair of runs and scored three times in the win.

Leadoff man Chaz Frank scored a team-high four runs in the win, equaling his career high set against Wright State in 2012.

Carolina gave Moss a 2-0 lead after the first thanks to back-to-back RBI singles from Cody Stubbs and Lassiter before pushing across six runs all with two outs in the second.

Frank started the rally with two down in the second when he singled to center and the next seven batters all reached for Carolina to bump the lead to 8-1.

The Tar Heels struck for six more in the bottom of the fifth inning, an inning highlighted by a pinch-hit grand slam off the bat of sophomore Grayson Atwood.

UNC tacked on a single run in the sixth and two more in the eighth to provide the final 17-2 tally.

Four freshman hurlers followed Moss on the bump with Trent Thornton working an inning, Reilly Hovis an inning and a third, Peter Hendel two thirds of an inning and Taylore Cherry closed out the contest with a scoreless ninth.

The Tar Heels will turn right back around and host Coastal Carolina on Monday at 3 p.m. after both squads had Saturday rain-outs.

Monday is Fan Appreciation Day at Boshamer Stadium as admission will be free of charge.
