No. 10 Texas A&M, SFA Top Carolina

COLLEGE STATION, Texas- The No. 23 Tar Heels dropped two games on Saturday on the second day of the Aggie Classic.  UNC is now 6-5 on the season with a 5-2 loss to Stephen F. Austin and then a 3-1 defeat to the No. 10 Aggies.

The Tar Heels had a strong hitting day, tallying 17 hits between the two games, but were not able to capitalize the hits into runs with 16 left on base for the day.

GAME ONE

Amy Nece singled to left to start off the game, advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by Erin Satterfield. Haleigh Dickey doubled to left center to drive in Nece and put the Tar Heels up early, 1-0.

In the second, SFA's Charlotte Singleton doubled down the left field line and then scored on a single up the middle by Alexis Callan to even the game at 1-1.

The Lady Jacks had a big third inning, taking advantage of a pair of errors by the Tar Heels.  Hollingsworth reached base on a wild pitch, and then Alisa Hamilton hit a sacrifice bunt but reached on a throwing error, advancing to second and moving Hollingsworth to third. Cadie Weaver reached base on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on a throwing error, driving in Hollingsworth and Hamilton. Elizabeth Arana then doubled to right field to drive in a third run. Singleton reached base and advanced to second on a throwing error while Arana scored to make it 5-1.

The Tar Heels were able to score once more in the seventh. Tracy Chandless singled to center, and pinch runner Aquilla Mateen moved to third on a single up the middle by Elisha Elliott. Nece singled to right field to drive in Mateen for the final 5-2 score.

Ashley Bone and Sara Buchholz combined efforts in the circle for the Tar Heels. Bone gave up three hits in 2.1 innings, giving up only one earned run and striking out two. Buchholz fanned five with no hits in 3.2 innings.

GAME TWO

In the second inning, Amber Parrish singled, and then Mateen advanced to second while pinch running for Parrish. Mateen moved to third on a single to center by Jenna Kelly, and then scored when Elliott singled through the right side.

The Tar Heels were able to hold the Aggies until the fourth, when Cali Lanphear homered down the right field line to drive in Cassie Tysarczyk and Amber Garza, who had each singled to get on base. A&M improved to 8-0 on the season with the win.

Lori Spingola gave up six hits while striking out five in six innings for Carolina.
