Release: 02/15/2013

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - No. 23 North Carolina split games with Stephen F. Austin and No. 10 Texas A&M on the opening day of the Aggie Classic Friday.

The Tar Heels, now 6-3 on the season, topped the Lady Jacks 6-4 before dropping their second game 1-0 to the Aggies. Ashley Bone pitched two innings in relief to earn the win in game one, fanning four with no hits and one walk.

After Taylor Wells singled in the fourth, Charlotte Singleton doubled down the right field line to drive in the first run. After Lindsay Campbell drew a walk, Alisa Hamilton singled to center to score Singleton and give the Lady Jacks the 2-0 lead.

Carolina responded in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two to even the game. Erin Satterfield started off the frame with a single to right field and advanced to second on a groundout. Amber Parrish singled and advanced to second on a throwing error while Satterfield scored the Tar Heels' first run. Kristen Brown reached first on an error, which drove in Parrish for the tying run.

The fifth saw the same even scoring from both teams. Shalie Day singled through the left side to start things off for SFA. Kaneisha Gray, running for Day, stole second and then scored on a homerun down the left field line by Bethany Brown.

Down 4-2, the Tar Heels responded again to even the game. Kati Causey drew a walk as the leadoff pinch hitter for Tisha Mahon. After re-entering the game, Mahon advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Amy Nece. After Satterfield drew a walk, Mahon scored on a single to center by Haleigh Dickey, which moved Satterfield to third. Orr then singled to left field to even the score once again for Carolina.

Jenna Kelly led off the sixth with a single to right field. When Bone reached first on an error, Kelly advanced to second and then to third on a single by Mahon.  Nece hit a sacrifice fly to left to drive in Kelly for the winning run, and then Dickey doubled to right field to drive in the final run for the 6-4 win.

The Tar Heels' second game was scoreless through the bottom of the fifth, when the Aggies scored the lone run of the game. Amber Garza reached base and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jenna Stark. Brittany Clopton doubled to leftfield to drive in Garza for the 1-0 victory.

Carolina totaled six hits but left nine on base and committed two errors. Lori Spingola (3-2) tallied six strikeouts and four hits in the circle for North Carolina.
