Tar Heels to Host First Meet
Release: 01/19/2013

Carolina will host George Washington and William & Mary Sunday in the Tar Heels' first home meet of the season.

UNC saw George Washington Jan. 13 in the Lindsey Ferris Invitational where the Colonials edged Carolina out for first place.

Finishing with a 192.950 in the meet, the Tar Heels, now 3-1, scored higher than they had in the same competition the previous year. The team's top performer was senior and co-captain Elizabeth Durkac, who tied or set personal bests on the uneven bars and vault.

For the upcoming meet, UNC's frame of mind will not be on besting the opponents, but rather performing to the best of the team's abilities.

"Our focus should not be on beating somebody else," said head coach Derek Galvin. "Our focus should be on improving upon our own bests. They want to win, and I do too, but sometimes that can become a distraction."

Carolina will aim to be poised and focused in the tri-meet as the gymnasts draw confidence from the home crowd.

The meet will begin at 2 p.m. in Carmichael Arena. Admission is free for students and the general public.
