Carolina Opens ACC Campaign At Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. ---North Carolina opens its 36th season of Atlantic Coast Conference play Sunday when the Tar Heels visit Clemson at 2 p.m. at Littlejohn Coliseum. Carolina is 12-1 on the year following an 85-44 win over East Tennessee State on Friday afternoon. Clemson is 4-7 on the season but the Lady Tigers have won four of five, including a 63-51 win over Samford on Dec. 22. UNC is ranked No. 16 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 and No. 23 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Poll. Clemson is unranked.

CLEMSON SERIES NOTES
• North Carolina is 51-27 all-time against Clemson, including a 15-14 mark in Clemson.
• Clemson won the lone regular season matchup in 2012, a 52-47 final in Chapel Hill. Carolina rebounded to defeat the Lady Tigers in the first round of the ACC Tournament, 90-51.
• Prior to last season's setback, the Tar Heels had won 16 straight against Clemson, UNC's longest winning streak in the series. The Lady Tigers have not beaten the Tar Heels at home since a 69-65 win in 2000.
• Carolina and Clemson played at least twice during the regular season every year from 1982 to 2004. This will mark the ninth season in a row the teams have met just once in regular season play.

CAROLINA IN ACC OPENERS
• The Tar Heels are 27-8 in ACC openers all-time, with a 20-6 mark under Sylvia Hatchell.
• Carolina has won 16 of its last 18 ACC openers, with the two losses coming at Maryland on Jan. 9, 2005, and at Georgia Tech on Jan. 6, 2011.
• UNC opened league play last season with a 65-63 upset win over No. 12 Miami in Chapel Hill.
• Carolina last opened the ACC schedule against Clemson in 2008-09, when the Tar Heels started their league campaign with an 83-74 road victory.

LAST TIME OUT: No. 16 UNC 85, East Tennessee State 44
CHAPEL HILL --- Tierra Ruffin-Pratt had 18 points and a career-high nine assists and North Carolina forced 36 turnovers as the No. 16 Tar Heels ran past East Tennessee State, 85-44, Friday afternoon at Carmichael Arena. UNC blew open the game with a 28-2 run that crossed halftime to improve to 12-1 ahead of Sunday's Atlantic Coast Conference opener at Clemson. Xylina McDaniel added 11 points despite being limited to 16 minutes due to foul trouble and Megan Buckland had nine points on 3-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc.
