Five Tar Heels Earn All-Region Honors

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Five North Carolina players have been honored as part of the 2012 Longstreth/NFHCA All-South Region teams, announced Thursday by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. Seniors Kelsey Kolojejchick and Caitlin Van Sickle, sophomore Charlotte Craddock and freshman Emily Wold were named to the first team and senior Katie Ardrey was named to the second team.

Kolojejchick earned a spot on the first team for the fourth time in her career. Van Sickle earned first-team honors for the third time after being a member of the second team as a freshman. Ardrey earned a spot on the team for the second time and Craddock and Wold, both newcomers to the program, were honored for the first time. 

A total of 29 Atlantic Coast Conference players earned all-region honors, more than any other league.

The top-ranked Tar Heels (22-1) take on No. 5 Syracuse Friday in Norfolk, Va., in the first of two NCAA semifinal games. UNC meets the Orange at 2 p.m. at Old Dominion's Powhatan Sports Complex, and Maryland plays Princeton in the second semifinal at 4:30 p.m. The winners clash Sunday at 1 p.m. for the NCAA title.
