Cross Country Heads To NCAA Regional
Release: 11/07/2012

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina cross country teams are heading to Charlotte, N.C. for the 2012 NCAA Southeast Regional, which will take place Friday. The women's 6K race will begin at 12 p.m. with the men's 10K to follow at 1:15 p.m.

The regional is hosted by Charlotte and will take place at the McAlpine Creek Park cross country course. The race will feature 39 men's teams and 41 women's teams, including six nationally ranked opponents.

Carolina comes into the meet after unexpected fifth and sixth place finishes for the women and men, respectively, at the ACC Championships two weeks ago.

In 2011 the UNC women placed third at the regional and the men placed fifth. Kendra Schaaf won the 2011 NCAA Southeast Regional individual title qualifying her for the NCAA National Championships last season. The win also secured her the honor of Southeast Regional Female Athlete of the Year. Former Tar Heel men Adam Cunningham and Jake Hurysz joined Schaaf with All-Region honors for their finishes. Hurysz also qualified for the 2011 NCAA Championships out of the regional, being the first Tar Heel male to do so since All-America John Klein in 1997.
