Baseball America Ranks Newcomers No. 5
Release: 10/25/2012

Baseball America released its Top 25 recruiting classes Thursday and ranked the North Carolina newcomers fifth in the country.

The Tar Heels bring in the third-most Baseball America Top 500 players for the 2013 season with Skye Bolt (214), Korey Dunbar (258), Taylore Cherry (280) and Kayden Porter (449) all earning the honor prior to the 2012 MLB Draft.

Carolina's four Top 500 players rank tied for third behind No. 1 Vanderbilt (6) and No. 2 UCLA (5).

Three freshmen were drafted in the 2012 MLB Draft led by shortstop Landon Lassiter who was selected in the 16th round by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Bolt was picked by the Washington Nationals in the 26th round, while the Los Angeles Dodgers picked Dunbar in the 39th round.

Carolina has the top class in the ACC, while Miami (10) and Clemson (13) were both ranked in the top 15.

The season opener is scheduled for Feb. 15 against Seton Hall but fans will have the chance to meet the newcomers at the annual First Pitch Dinner set for Feb. 2.
