Changes In Future Football Schedules
Release: 10/16/2012

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina has made several changes to its future non-conference football schedules, Athletics Director Bubba Cunningham announced Tuesday.

North Carolina and East Carolina have reached an agreement to move next year's game to Chapel Hill.  As a result, the 2014 contest and the 2016 or 2018 game will be played in Greenville.

North Carolina and Minnesota also have cancelled their home-and-home series, scheduled for 2013 and 2014.

"We're disappointed we will not have the opportunity to play Minnesota," said Cunningham.  "Recently, Minnesota expressed an interest in cancelling the series and we agreed to do so based on the terms of the contract."

Minnesota has agreed to pay North Carolina the buyout fee of $800,000.

North Carolina will open the 2013 season at South Carolina on Thursday, Aug. 29, and the Tar Heels have reached an agreement to play Old Dominion on Oct. 12.

"We're excited about the opportunity to open next season against South Carolina on ESPN," said Cunningham.  "The recent expansion of the ACC to include Notre Dame and the decision to stay at eight conference games allows for greater flexibility in scheduling home-and-home series."
