CHAPEL HILL - NCAA rules don't allow men's basketball teams to practice officially until Saturday, but the North Carolina team celebrated the eve of the 2012-13 season with its annual Late Night With Roy in the Smith Center on Friday night.
UNC alumnus and ESPN host Stuart Scott served as emcee as the Tar Heel players teamed with the UNC dance squad for dance numbers and skits. The Carolina women's basketball team also took part in the festivities.
Members of every available Carolina varsity team marched through the Smith Center in an Olympic opening ceremony-themed procession headlined by Olympic soccer gold medalist Heather O'Reilly, a UNC alum.
The crowd's lengthy ovation when Williams was introduced was an emotional highlight of the festivities. The evening culminated with a 20-minute intrasquad scrimmage played by the men's team.
