GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina freshman Paige Neuenfeldt was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
Neuenfeldt helped the Tar Heels improve to 13-2 overall and 4-1 in conference play with wins over Clemson on Wednesday and Georgia Tech on Sunday. The rookie middle blocker posted 1.29 blocks and 1.86 kills per set in the two wins. Against the Tigers, the Birmingham, Mich., native posted her fourth match with double-digit kills on the season with 10. Neuenfeldt added six blocks in the next match as the Tar Heels handed the Yellow Jackets their first sweep of the season. She now ranks second in the conference with 1.37 blocks per set.
Miami sophomore middle blocker Emani Sims, who was named the ACC Volleyball Player of the Week, collected 32 kills while hitting .500 in two home wins over the weekend. In a 3-1 win over Duke, the sophomore matched her career high with 18 kills while adding seven blocks at the net. In a three-set sweep of Wake Forest, Sims tallied 14 kills while hitting at a .722 clip, a new career best. A member of the preseason All-ACC Team, Sims made only one error in 18 total attempts against the Deacons.
North Carolina, now undefeated at home with eight wins, takes to the road next weekend for matches at at No.14 Florida State on Friday, Oct. 5, and at Miami on Sunday, Oct. 7.
