Tar Heels Shut Out Villanova 10-0
Release: 09/09/2012

NEWARK, Del. - Seven different players scored goals as top-ranked North Carolina beat Villanova Sunday afternoon in a neutral-site game played at the University of Delaware's Rullo Field. Sophomore Samantha Travers finished with a hat trick, and senior Kelsey Kolojejchick scored twice and added two assists. The other five goals came from seniors Jaclyn Gaudioso Radvany and Katie Plyler, junior Marta Malmberg, sophomore Abby Frey and freshman Casey Di Nardo.  Di Nardo's goal was the first of her career, and Plyler's was her first of the season.

The Tar Heels didn't get on the board until the eighth minute of play, late by recent standards, but then scored three goals - by Gaudioso Radvany, Frey and Kolojejchick - in a 10 minute span. Travers' three goals came in a row, one 90 seconds before halftime, one 3:36 after the break and another in the 42nd minute.   All were off penalty corners, of which the Tar Heels had 13 on the day.

Plyler, Kolojejchick, Malmberg and Di Nardo rounded out the scoring, and the Tar Heels didn't get another goal past the 59th minute.

They finished with 32 shots to Villanova's five. Sophomore goalkeeper Sassi Ammer made two saves to preserve the team's second shutout of the weekend and third of the year.

After opening the year with six road games, the Tar Heels finally play at home this Friday, welcoming Old Dominion to Francis E. Henry Stadium for a 6 p.m. game. The matchup will be broadcast on ESPN3.
