Tar Heels Ranked Fourth By Soccer America

The University of North Carolina women's soccer team has earned the No. 4 preseason ranking in the 2012 Soccer America poll which was announced Wednesday morning.  The Tar Heels are coming off a 13-5-2 season in 2011 in which they advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16.

UNC opens its season Friday night at Portland at 10 p.m. EDT.  Live video and live stats links for Friday night's game can be found on the women's soccer schedule page on GoHeels.com.

The Soccer America preseason poll is dominated by Atlantic Coast Conference teams with Duke being the preseason No. 1 team followed by 2011 NCAA champion Stanford, Wake Forest in third, Carolina in fourth and UCLA fifth.

Other ACC teams in the poll are Florida State at No. 6, Virginia at No. 7, Boston College at No. 18, Maryland at No. 19 and Virginia Tech at No. 24.

Carolina's non-conference schedule this year includes games against ninth-ranked Florida, 12th-ranked Notre Dame and 14th-ranked Marquette.
