Nine Named NACGC/W Scholastic All-America

Chapel Hill, N.C. - Nine North Carolina gymnasts have been named Scholastic All-America award winners by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W).  The recipients were recognized for a year-long or cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher through the 2011-12 season. 


North Carolina's winners inclued Kristin Aloi (3.55, undeclared), Emily Cornwell (3.60, undeclared), Acacia Consentino (3.59, undeclared), Elizabeth Durkac (3.74, psychology), Michelle Ikoma (3.97, biostatistics & business), Krista Jasper (3.95, dramatic arts), Elizabeth Lindley (3.90, exercise and sport science), Meredith Magjuka (3.86, environmental studies & business) and Janell Sargent (3.65, undeclared).


A rising senior from Yorktown, Va., Durkac was named the 2012 Most Outstanding Gymnast at North Carolina's annual team banquet. Durkac was one of the most consistent performers this year, scoring a 39.0 or higher in the all-around in the last eight consecutive meets of the season.

Durkac won two individual event titles - all-around and uneven bars - in a three-team meet vs. Bowling Green and Maryland to earn East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) gymnast of the week honors. Two weeks later, she repeated as the league's gymnast of the week with a personal-best 39.225 in the all-around vs. Temple.
