Carolina Shoots Two Under at Regional

Ben Griffin and Jose Montaño shot 68s and Zach Martin finished with a 69 to lead the University of North Carolina men's golf team in second round action at the NCAA Stanford Regional Tuesday at the Stanford Golf Course.

The Tar Heels shot a 2-under-par 278 and are tied for eighth place with 18 holes to play. The top five teams advance out of regional play to the NCAA Championship. UNC is 6 over par after 36 holes, six shots behind BYU, Georgia Tech and North Florida, who are tied for fifth place at even.

Baylor was 15 under par today and moved into first at -18, seven shots clear of host Stanford. The Cardinal was 2 under for the round and is 11 under for the tournament. Pepperdine is third at -5, Oklahoma is fourth at -3, BYU, Georgia Tech and North Florida are even and UNC and Houston are tied for eighth place at 6 over.

UNC was one of seven teams to shoot under par as a team in the second round.

Griffin and Martin are tied for 17th place at even par 140. Montaño is tied for 32nd at +2, William Register is tied for 41st at +4 and freshman Austin Hitt is tied for 58th at +8.

Oklahoma's Brad Dalke followed his opening round 65 with a 64 on Tuesday and leads the individual race at 11 under. Dalke leads Stanford's Maverick McNeal by three.

The third and final round of the Stanford Regional is scheduled for Wednesday.
