CINCINNATI, OHIO - Incoming freshman Ronnie Schneider of Bloomington, Ind., on Tuesday won the championship of the Midwest Sectional Qualifying in the 2013 U.S. Open National Playoffs in Cincinnati, Ohio. Schneider is ranked as the No. 1 high school recruit in the nation and will enrolled at Carolina in August.
Schneider defeated Kevin Metka of Ohio State 6-1, 6-4 in the finals Tuesday. The Bloomington South High School alumnus has now conquered the first step in earning a wild card to play in the 2013 U.S. Open qualifying tournament.
With the win in the Midwest Sectional, Schneider has earned one of 16 spots in a tournament to be played in August (site TBA) with 15 other sectional winners. The winner of that August tournament will earned a wild card spot into the qualifying tournament for the 2013 U.S. Open. That qualifying tournament will be played at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadow, N.Y.
