A dozen former Tar Heel field hockey players competed in the inaugural Harrow Cup June 8-9 and one of them - Meghan Dawson - earned MVP honors for the event. Dawson and former UNC teammate Teryn Brill helped the Mambas to the first Harrow Cup title, 6-1 over the Tomahawks.
Staged in Philadelphia, the Harrow Cup included eight teams and was open to all female players with no remaining collegiate eligibility. In addition to Dawson and Brill, former Tar Heels competing were Leslie Barrows, Laree Beans, Dani Forword, Xan Funk, Jesse Gey, Hilary Hartman, Louise McNutt, Elizabeth Stephens and Alli Tanner. Tanner, now Field Hockey Brand Manager for Harrow, was an organizer of the event. Gey served as team captain for the Tembos.
Another former Tar Heel, Rachel Dawson (who is the older sister of Meghan and now plays for the U.S. National Team) wrote a blog post about the event for espnW. Read it here.
