UNC Announces 2013 Men's Soccer Schedule

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- University of North Carolina men's soccer head coach Carlos Somoano announced his squad's 2013 schedule Monday. The Tar Heels will take on 10 NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago after reaching the NCAA Quarterfinals for the fifth consecutive year.

Carolina will play three exhibition matches before the regular season kicks off Aug. 30. The Tar Heels will hit the road to take on Elon in an exhibition match Saturday, Aug. 17 in Greensboro, N.C. before heading to Fort Wayne, Ind. for a pair of exhibitions against NCAA Tournament teams Michigan State and Indiana (Aug. 22 & 24).

The 2013 regular season will open with the Tar Heels hosting the Carolina Nike Classic on Friday, Aug. 30. Carolina will take on Monmouth on Friday before hosting Coastal Carolina on Sunday, Sept. 1.

The 2013 Atlantic Coast Conference season will open with a visit to new league side, Notre Dame, on Saturday, Sept. 7 in South Bend, Ind.

Carolina will return home to host Maryland (Sept. 13) before hitting the road to take on Campbell (Sept. 17) and Virginia Tech (Sept. 20).

A midweek visit from William & Mary (Sept. 24) will occur before the Tar Heels take to the road again on Sept. 28 to take on Wake Forest.

Four of the next five matches for the Tar Hees will be played on Fetzer Field as Duke (Oct. 4), Clemson (Oct. 8), Syracuse (Oct. 18) and UNC Wilmington (Oct. 22) come to Chapel Hill with a trip to Boston College (Oct. 12) splitting the four home matches.

Back-to-back weekend road trips to Pittsburgh on Oct. 26 and to Virginia on Nov. 1 close out the regular season road slate for the Tar Heels.

A pair of home matches wrap up the regular season with Carolina hosting Georgia State (Nov. 5) and NC State (Nov. 8).

The 2013 ACC Championship will begin Nov. 12 on campus sites before the semifinals and finals take place at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Germantown, Md.

The 2013 NCAA College Cup will take place December 13 & 15 in Philadelphia, Pa. and will be hosted at PPL Park home of the Philadelphia Union.
