RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State hit a walk-off homer for the second straight game to take the 3-1 win and claim the series over No. 24 North Carolina Sunday.
UNC, now 33-15 and 10-5 in the ACC, split with NCSU on Saturday, winning a close game one, 2-1, before dropping game two, 11-8, in extra innings after NC State's first walk-off homer by Caitlin Dent.
The Tar Heels and Wolfpack had tallied just two hits apiece through a scoreless first five innings, but Kristen Brown came up big for Carolina in the top of the sixth with her seventh homer of the season out center field.
Trailing 1-0 going into the final at-bat, NC State stayed alive on a single to left by Lana Van Dyken before Kirsty Grant drew a walk. With two runners on base, Renada Davis homered out left field for NCSU's second straight three-run walk-off home run.
Lori Spingola fanned six in seven innings in the circle, surrendering five hits and three walks in the loss.
UNC heads to East Carolina this Wednesday to face the Pirates at 5 p.m. The Tar Heels host their final ACC series against Georgia Tech Sunday and Monday, April 21-22, at Anderson Stadium. Monday's game at 7 pm is Senior Night, and the contest will be shown live on ESPNU.
