Henderson Finishes In Sixth Place
Release: 03/23/2013

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Sophomore Evan Henderson finished sixth place in the country at 141 pounds as his NCAA Championships experience came to an end Saturday.

Henderson opened the morning session against a familiar foe in The Citadel's Ugi Khishignyam whom Henderson beat in a pair of narrow decisions during the regular season. The sixth-seeded Khishignyam would get the better of Henderson on Saturday as he pinned Hendereson in the opening period at the 1:08 mark to drop Henderson to the fifth place match.

The New Florence, Pa., native would take on Cornell's Michael Nevinger, the #11 seed, in the battle for fifth place. Nevinger would go on to win the match by a 9-2 decision.

The sixth place finish makes Henderson the first Tar Heel to earn All-America status since Evan Sola earned fifth place at the 2005 NCAA Championships.

The Tar Heels earned 21.5 team points at the Championships and are currently in 22nd place before tonight's finals. The 22nd place finish would be the best team finish for a Tar Heel group since the 1996 squad finished in 21st place.
