CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina men's swimming team will be sending 10 individuals to the 2013 NCAA Division I Championships to be held in Indianapolis, Ind., March 28-30.
Six Tar Heels have qualified in individual events and four others will be attending as relay only competitors.
"We are excited to have six invited qualifiers for the Men's NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships and will take four additional relay alternates to help fill out the five relays we will compete in," said UNC head coach Rich DeSelm. "The NCAA's are the ultimate in college swimming competition and we look forward to competing. Our five upperclassmen and five freshmen are preparing to be their best at the most competitive short course meet in the nation."
Luchsinger, who won ACC championships in the 400-yard individual medley and 200-yard butterfly this year, qualified in three individual events. He is the No. 8 seed in the 200 fly at 1:43.17, the No. 13 seed in the 400 IM at 3:44.25 and the No. 29 seed in the 200 IM at 1:45.08.
Fellow senior Brett Nagle earned a spot in the 1650-yard freestyle by going 15:02.02 in last weekend's Yellow Jacket Invitational. He shaved four seconds off his ACC Championships time and passed several swimmers to qualify for the NCAA's in the 27th spot.
Each freshman is qualified in one event. Sam Lewis is the 16th seed in the 100-yard butterfly at 46.42. Nic Graesser is the No. 16 seed in the 100-yard backstroke at 46.64. Logan Heck is seeded 20th in the 100-yard freestyle at 42.96. Ben Colley is the 28th seed in the 200-yard butterfly at 1:44.63.The Tar Heels have eligible relays in all five events. The 200-yard freestyle relay has a season best time of 1:18.98. The 400-yard medley relay is seeded 16th at 3:09.78. The 200-yard medley relay earned eligibility at a time of 1:26.19. Carolina qualified 15th in the 800-yard freestyle relay at 6:22.47. The 400-yard freestyle relay is also eligible off a season best time of 2:54.88.
