NCAA Swim Competition Begins Thursday

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – Twelve members of the University of North Carolina women's swimming team officially received invitations Thursday night to compete in the 2013 NCAA Division I Championships set for March 21-23 at the IU Natatorium.

Unfortunately Stephanie Peacock, reigning NCAA champion in the 1650-yard freestyle, had to withdraw from the meet due to illness.

In addition to the 11 women who qualified to swim in individual events, UNC qualified to swim three relay events – the 400-yard medley relay (3:36,87), 800-yard freestyle relay (13th seed, 7:04.87) and 400-yard freestyle relay (10th seed).  Carolina was the ACC champion in the latter of the three relays in 3:15.88.

A total of 281 individuals from 72 schools earned invites.  UNC and Virginia both had the most qualifiers among ACC schools with 11 each.

UNC's individual qualifiers and events are as follows:

Lauren Earp, Freshman, 200 Free (1:45.22)

Annie Harrison, Freshman, 200 Back (1:54.79)

Meredith Hoover, Junior, 200 Fly (1:55.29)

Hannah Lincoln, Freshman, 100 Fly (52.87)

Katie Nolan, Senior, 100 Fly (52.64), 200 Fly (1:56.99)

Emma Nunn, Freshman, 200 Fly (1:56.85)

Stephanie Peacock, Junior, 200 Free (1:45.96), 500 Free (4:34.42), 1650 Free (15:37.06) - WIthdrawn

Jackie Rudolph, Senior, 1650 Free (16:14.49)

Danielle Siverling, Sophomore, 200 Free (1:45.42_

Carly Smith, Senior, 100 Back (53.05)

The Tar Heels have also been granted two additonal entries as relay only swimmers – junior Katie Rechsteiner and freshman All Hardesty.
