No. 1 UNC Sweeps Astros College Classic
Release: 03/03/2013

HOUSTON -- No. 1 North Carolina moved to 3-0 on the weekend with a 14-2 win over No. 30 Texas A&M (8-5) on Sunday to wrap up the Astros Foundation College Classic in Houston, Texas.

The Tar Heels scored in each of the first five innings to move to 10-0 on the year for the third time since the 2000 season.

The game was called after seven innings due to the tournament's 10-run mercy rule.

Eleven different Tar Heels registered a hit as the Tar Heels slugged out 13 hits on the afternoon with the freshmen duo of Landon Lassiter and Skye Bolt picking up two hits apiece.

Junior Colin Moran and Lassiter each scored three runs in the rout, while leadoff man Chaz Frank and fellow senior Cody Stubbs scored twice.

Carolina fell behind 1-0 after the first half inning before running Texas A&M starter Rafael Pineda from the game after four batters.

Pineda walked the first four batters he faced as UNC tied the contest at 1-1 without swinging the bat. UNC would tack on two more runs in the inning.

Carolina sent 10 batters to the plate in the second inning to extend its lead to 8-2 with a five-run inning before adding on four more runs in the third inning.

UNC was able to score single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to provide the final margin of 14-2.

Junior left-hander Hobbs Johnson earned the start for Carolina after missing his previous scheduled start. Johnson allowed two runs on one hit over 2.1 innings but walked five batters.

Senior Chris Munnelly would come on to relieve Johnson in the third inning and allowed one hit over 2.2 innings of work to earn the victory.

Sophomore Trevor Kelley struck out a pair in a scoreless sixth inning before Reilly Hovis closed the door on the win with a scoreless seventh inning.

Carolina will return home to host Davidson on Wednesday, March 6 with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
