CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Lori Spingola tossed a no-hitter as the Tar Heels shut out North Dakota State 4-0 Thursday in UNC's first game of the Carolina Classic. Spingola struck out nine batters in six innings while walking only one batter.
Freshman Erin Satterfield walked to lead of the sixth, and then sophomore Amber Parrish homered over right center to drive in Satterfield and put the Tar Heels up 2-0. Senior Constance Orr then drew a walk before junior Amy Nece also hit a home run over left center for the 4-0 win.
Carolina did not allow an NDSU runner on base until the top of the sixth, when Jenina Ortega drew a walk.
The Tar Heels improved to 8-5 with Thursday's win. The Carolina Classic continues Friday with Iona vs. GWU at 12:30 pm and UNC facing Iona at 5:30 pm.
