BLACKSBURG, Va. - Tory Kemp earned All-ACC honors for her third-place finish in the pentathlon at the 2013 ACC Indoor Championships on Thursday, as she earned 3,730 points to rank fourth all-time in the UNC record books.
"I was very pleased with Tory's performance overall," said multis assistant coach Josh Langley after the first day of competition. "She had a couple instances of adversity and she bounched back well. She is pleased with her performance but is not satisified by any means, which is the sign of big things to come."
Kemp's marks included a PR 8.73 in the 60-meter hurdles, 5-3 ¾ (1.62 meters) in the high jump, 33-2 (10.11 meters) in the shot put, 18-1 ¾ (5.53 meters) in the long jump, and 2:24.94 in the 800.
Lauren Lazor earned 3,158 points in her conference pentathlon. Her marks included 9.72 in the 60-meter hurdles, 4-8 ¾ (1.44 meters) in the high jump, 33-2 (10.11 meters) in the shot put, and 2:24.53 in the 800.
"Lauren came through in the 800, her and Tory train together and she showed Tory what she was made of in the 800 today," said Coach Langley. "It helped Tory with her confidence. She was a great teammate today."
"Joe had a good day. He's anxious to get to the hurdles tomorrow," said Coach Langley, "We just want to get the next three events finished up."
Hutchinson's marks included 7.17 in the 60 meters, 6-2 ¾ (1.90 meters) in the high jump, 20-10 ¾ (6.37 meters) in the long jump, and 40-9 ½ (12.43 meters) in the shot put.
"I think Ryan had an excellent first day in the first multis event he's ever competed in," added Coach Langley. "He came out determined and focused and had a great day."
Ramsey's marks included 7.07 in the 60, 6-0 ½ (1.84 meters) in the high jump, 22-0 ¼ (6.71 meters) in the long jump, and 35-8 ¾ (10.89 meters) in the shot put.
"Chadd is Chadd. He's solid as a rock in everything," said Coach Langley. "He's the motivator on the team. He gets everybody hyped up and keeps them up. He's absolutely prepared to do big things tomorrow."
Pierce's marks included 7.59 in the 60, 6-4 (1.93 meters) in the high jump, 20-2 ½ (6.16 meters) in the long jump, and 36-0 (10.97 meters) in the shot put.
All three men multis earned PRs in the 60-meters. The 60-meter hurdles, pole vault, and 1,000 meters will take place on Friday.
