SEATTLE - Patrick Schellberg raced to the second-best school record time in the men's 5,000 invite race at the Husky Classic on Friday evening, finishing in 14:05.88.
"Pat's heat was probably one of the deepest NCAA fields ever assembled," said assistant coach Mark VanAlstyne, "He ran well and was in the pack with under a mile to go but couldn't muster his usual finish. In hindsight, we think he had trouble relaxing in the pack early and used too much energy fighting for position."
The Tar Heels will be represented by Lianne Farber in the women's mile and Isaac Presson in the men's mile on Saturday at the Husky Classic. The meet can be streamed live here with live results also available..
Carolina is also facing its first team-scored meet of the season at the Nebraska Invitational on Saturday as the teams will face Nebraska and Alabama. Live results will be available here. Competition begins at 1 p.m. eastern.
