GREENSBORO, N.C. -
North Carolina seniors Katie Nolan and Brett Nagle have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Female and Male Swimmers of the Week, announced Tuesday by the conference office.
Nolan won a pair of individual events and swam on two second-place relays to lead North Carolina to a 157-142 win over NC State. The native of Hershey, Pa., won both the 100 yard backstroke and 100 yard butterfly in close races against Wolfpack opponents, winning the 100 fly by .47 seconds and the 100 back by .45 seconds. She also swam the anchor leg on the 400 medley relay and the second leg on the 200 free relay.
Nagle won two individual events in season-best times to power North Carolina past No. 22 NC State, 159.5-140.5. Nagle went a season-best 4:22.72 in the 500-yard freestyle, almost eight seconds faster than anyone else in the field and just one second short of his career best. It ranks as the third fastest time in the ACC this season. The Portland, Ore., native also won the 1000 freestyle in a career-best time of 9:03.47, the fastest mark in the ACC this year by over three seconds. This is the second ACC Male Swimmer of the Week honor for Nagle this season, after previously being recognized on Oct. 16.
