McDaniel Claims Fifth ACC Rookie Honor

GREENSBORO, N.C. --- North Carolina freshman forward Xylina McDaniel has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week, as announced Monday afternoon by the conference office and voted on by the Blue Ribbon Panel.

McDaniel earned her league-leading fifth ACC Rookie of the Week honor after averaging 15.5 points and 6.0 rebounds in Carolina's 1-1 week, which included a win over No. 20 Florida State. McDaniel was key to the Tar Heels' win over the Seminoles, scoring 15-second half points and finishing with 19 points leading all scorers. McDaniel also came up big in the second half against No. 5 Duke and scored all 12 of her points after halftime. The Columbia, S.C., native leads all ACC freshmen in scoring, rebounding and steals.

McDaniel and the Tar Heels are back in action Thursday, Feb. 7, at Boston College.
