BALTIMORE, MD - US Lacrosse today announced the 18-player U.S. Women's National Team, and there are three former Tar Heels on the squad in defenders Kristen Carr, Amber Falcone and Jenn Russell. Carolina assistant coach Katrina Dowd grabbed a spot on the attack unit on the team.
UNC's three players on the team are tied with Northwestern as the most from any school in the nation on the national team. There are a total of eight ACC players on the team, including three from Carolina, two each from Duke and Maryland and one from Boston College.
The sqaud will compete in the 2013 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Cup, July 11-20 in Oshawa, Ontario. The U.S. women's national team will look to defend its 2009 gold medal and earn its seventh overall world title.
The team was selected from a 25-player U.S. women's national training team roster, which was previously selected from a group of 38 players comprising the 2012-14 U.S. women's national team. Team USA most recently competed at the Jan. 25-27 Champion Challenge, a US Lacrosse event in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., where it compiled a 3-0 record against Northwestern University, Syracuse University and the English women's national team.
