COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- North Carolina dropped to 4-6 in dual action Saturday as Maryland downed the Tar Heels 21-16 in College Park.

Sophomore Chris Mears made it a 6-0 UNC lead as he posted a 6-2 decision against Brady Massaro at 157 lbs before John Staudenmayer added three more team points with a shutout decision of Domenic DeRobertis, 5-0, at 165 lbs.

The Terps bounced back and responded with 18 straight team points to take a commanding lead.

No. 5 Josh Asper claimed an 8-1 decision over Tanner Eitel at 174 lbs before Alex Utley waged a battle with No. 7 Jimmy Sheptock at 184 lbs. Sheptock claimed the 9-5 decision over Utley to make the team score 9-6 in favor of UNC.

No. 18 Christian Boley pinned Frank Abbondanza in the dying seconds of regulation at 197 lbs to push Maryland into the lead at 12-9.

A second straight pin at heavyweight pushed Maryland's lead to 18-9 as Dallas Brown pinned Cody Klempay in 3:17.

Freshman Nathan Kraisser improved to 10-0 in duals and cut the Maryland run with an 8-4 decision over Shane Gentry at 125 lbs with two bouts remaining.

Maryland's No. 16-ranked Geoffrey Alexander sealed the dual for the Terps with a 7-3 decision over Pat Owens at 133 lbs.

UNC's Evan Henderson pulled four points back for the Tar Heels with a 14-4 major decision over Shane Arechiga at 141 lbs to provide the final margin.
