GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Freshman Nathan Kraisser became the second Tar Heel to earn ACC Wrestler of the Week this season as he was tabbed for the honor Tuesday.
Kraisser went 2-0 on the weekend with a pair of impressive wins over top 10 opponents.
Friday saw Kraisser claim an 8-5 win over Virginia's Matt Snyder who entered the week ranked No. 7 in the country. Kraisser opened the first period with a 5-2 lead after the first period before adding a takedown in the final period for the win.
The 125-pounder made it two for two in upset victories on Saturday as he jumped out to a big lead on No. 4 Jarrod Garnett of Virginia Tech in the first period. Kraisser added an escape in the second period and a takedown in the third to claim the 9-2 win over Garnett.
With Friday and Saturday's wins, the 13th-ranked Kraisser defeated the two wrestlers who have won the last three ACC Championships in the 125-pound weight class.
Kraisser joins Evan Henderson who claimed the honor on Nov. 13.
The Tar Heels return to action this weekend when they travel to Maryland to take on Navy on Friday and Maryland on Saturday.
