Tar Heels Start Strong At Dick Taylor

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina track and field teams opened the 2013 indoor season at home with the Dick Taylor Invitational. The Tar Heels landed wins in five events for the day and added top collegiate finishes in two events.

Marisa Dobbins won her heat and ultimately the event of the women's 600 by nearly three seconds with a time of 1:36.33.

Reynaldo Radlin won the men's section of the 600 clocking in at 1:21.70. Clayton Parros was not far behind in third place at 1:22.02 followed by freshman Taylor Vippolis in sixth in 1:23.53.

A mere 50 minutes after competing in the 600, Parros won the men's 200 in 22.29 followed by Devon Carter in 22.75 for the one-two finish. Radlin placed fourth in the 200 in 22.94 followed by Chris Graves in sixth in 23.04. Jasmine Wilson raced the women's 200 to a sixth-place finish in 25.83.

Chrishawn Williams was the top collegiate in the women's long jump, leaping 20-1 ½ (6.13 meters). Tristine Johnson placed fourth in the same event, reaching 18-8 ½ (5.70 meters), while Briana Hudson placed fifth in 18-5 ¼ (5.62 meters).

Daisaun White placed second in the men's long jump, reaching a length of 21-2 ½ (6.46 meters). White jumped the distance on his first attempt.

Ariel Roberts won the women's high jump reaching a height of 5-7 ¾ (1.72 meters).

AJ Hicks was the top collegiate in the men's weight throw as he hurled to 59-8 ¼ (18.19 meters).

Avana Story made her debut in Carolina blue in the women's weight throw as she placed third throwing a distance of 55-7 (16.94 meters).

Tory Kemp won the women's pentathlon scoring 3,596 points. The freshman led the competition heading into the final event. Lauren Lazor also competed in her first pentathlon as a Tar Heel, earning 3,193 points to place fourth.

Men's multis Joe Hutchinson and Chadd Pierce completed the first day of events for the heptathlon with Hutchinson currently the top collegiate with 2,785 points through four events. Pierce will start the second day of competition with 2,515 points. The final three events will take place starting at 10:45 a.m. with the 60-meter hurdles.
