GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina sophomore Danielle Siverling and Virginia Tech freshman Joe Bonk have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Female and Male Swimmers of the Week, announced Tuesday by the conference office. Virginia Tech senior Logan Shinholser and Duke senior Abby Johnston were named the Male and Female Divers of the Week.
Siverling won two individual events and swam on two relay squads to help the Tar Heel women defeat Navy. The Chester Springs, Pa., native won the 100-meter freestyle in 56.51 and the 200-meter freestyle in 1:59.88. She swam the second leg on the victorious 400-meter freestyle relay team, and helped the 200-meter medley relay squad to a second place finish.
Bonk led the way for Virginia Tech as the Hokie men defeated Tennessee, 166.5-133.5. The native of Raleigh, N.C., swept the sprint freestyle events, winning the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle in addition to anchoring the 200 medley relay team that kicked off the meet with a first place finish to remain undefeated this season. Bonk also swam the second leg of the 400 free relay that placed second.
Shinholser added to his six-event winning streak, sweeping the springboard events against Tennessee this past weekend. The native of Burtonsville, Md., notched a 3-meter score of 390.97, 23 points higher than the second place competitor, and later took a score of 372.82 on the 1-meter. Shinholser has won 11 of 14 events this season and has earned ACC Men's Diver of the Week honors four times this year.
In just her second outing of the 2012-13 season, Johnston surpassed the NCAA Zone qualifying mark on the 1-meter board. The native of upper Arlington, Ohio, posted a 309.83 to win the 1-meter in a dual meet against South Carolina.
