CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - With fall exams long over and the start of the spring semester beginning tomorrow, the University of North Carolina track and field programs are proud to announce their academic successes for the fall 2012 semester. A total 19 student-athletes were named to the Dean's List and 45 earned semester grade point averages of 3.0 or higher.
"The performances indicate what is possible through the diligent work of our kids and the collaborative efforts of our academic support services specifically our academic counselor Kym Orr and our coaching staff," said head coach Harlis Meaders.
Newcomers Richard Miller and Chelsea Weiermiller earned perfect 4.0 GPAs for the fall 2012 semester. The men's track and field team earned a 2.926 GPA as the women earned a 3.145 GPA.
Eight men and 11 women were named to the Dean's List, including freshman Miller, sophomore Nate Fisher, senior Chadd Pierce, junior Ryan Ramsey, senior Peter Rehder, freshman Houston Summers, redshirt freshman Matus Kriska, sophomore Scott Morgan, senior Weiermiller, senior Marisa Dobbins, sophomore Cori Floyd, sophomore Cameron Overstreet, sophomore Lauren Lazor, junior Malia Cali, freshman Aundrea Holmes, pharmacy student Mariana Lucena, senior Ashley Miess, sophomore Karley Rempel, and sophomore Julie Swaim.
"Not only is this the first step [in what we're trying to do here]," added Coach Meaders, "But it is the most important step in our process to build the perfect environment for our students to achieve all of their goals both academically and athletically."
The Carolina track and field indoor season begins on January 18-19th when the Tar Heels host the annual Dick Taylor Invitational at the Eddie Smith Field House. The 2013 yearbook is now available online and can be downloaded here.
