CHAPEL HILL - Carolina rang in the new year with action in a number of sports last week.  Catch up with today's installment of the GoHeels Weekly Primer.

 

BASEBALL:  UNC assistant coaches Scott Forbes and Scott Jackson were named among the top assistant coaches in the nation by Baseball America.

MEN'S BASKETBALL:  On Sunday night, the Tar Heels opened Atlantic Coast Conference play with a loss at Virginia ... Here's Adam Lucas' take on Reggie Bullock's strong effort in the defeat ... Heading into the UVa game, Lucas took stock of UNC freshman class as we enter conference play ... GoHeels TV posted its latest "This Week In Carolina Basketball segment ... UP NEXT:  The Tar Heels will try to even its ACC record at 1-1 when they host Miami on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Smith Center.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL:  On Sunday, the Tar Heels beat Virginia Tech, 48-45 ... Earlier in the week, the No. 15 Tar Heels opened ACC play with a thrilling win over No. 8 Maryland ... Here's Lauren Brownlow's take on the big victory ... UP NEXT:  Carolina will visit NC State on Thursday night at 7 p.m.

FENCING:  Head coach Ron Miller reviewed the team's dual meets ... UP NEXT:  The Tar Heels will take part in the Penn State Duals next weekend in State College, Pa.

FOOTBALL:  Kevin Reddick and Sylvester Wiliams earned invitations to the Senior Bowl.
