PINEHURST, N.C. - University of North Carolina golfer Patrick Barrett was the runner-up at the CCNC Amateur played at the Country Club of North Carolina. Barrett finished with a 2-over-par 218 total, three strokes behind Justin Clement who finished at 1-under 215.
Barrett, a senior from Pinehurst, fired a 2-under-par 70 in the final round. His round included four birdies and two bogeys. He fired an even par 72 in the second round after shooting a 2-over 74 in the opening round. Barrett played in all five of Carolina's fall tournaments. His top finish came at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate where he was the runner-up competing as an individual. He fired two additional top-25 finishes, tying for fourth place at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate and tying for 21st at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate. The 54-hole event was played Dec. 18-20 at CCNC's par 72, 7,068-yard layout.
Three other Tar Heels also participated and carded top-25 finishes. Andy Knox, a junior from Cary, N.C., tied for 10th place at 9-over 225 with rounds of 75-73-77. He played in three events this fall with his top performance coming at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate where he tied for 17th place while competing as an individual. Reeves Zaytoun, a sophomore from Raleigh, N.C., tied for 16th at 11-over 227. He fired a 1-over 73 in the final round after shooting 78-76 in the first two rounds. Robert Register, a sophomore from Burlington, N.C., tied for 25th at 14-over 230 with rounds of 74-81-75.
