CHAPEL HILL --- Seniors Zoe De Bruycker, Lauren McHale and Gina Suarez-Malaguti have been named captains for the 2012-13 North Carolina women's tennis team, head coach Brian Kalbas announced Tuesday. De Bruycker and McHale are both ranked in the top 30 nationally in the latest ITA singles poll and Suarez-Malaguti is expected to be ranked highly when the preseason poll comes out in January.
"These three are already one of the most decorated classes in the history of our program and they are deeply committed to continuing that team success," Kalbas said. "They have all demonstrated an incredible commitment and dedication to the program with their work ethic both on the court in practice and in off-court training."
Carolina has won a pair of ACC titles and advanced to the NCAA final site three times in the last three dual seasons. The 2010 Tar Heels advanced the the national semifinals for the first time in school history, with De Brucyker and Suarez-Malaguti both winning singles matches in the quarterfinals against Duke. McHale, who transferred to UNC from Princeton after her freshman season, has earned doubles All-America honors twice.
"The thing that impresses me most about this group is that they are more focused on the team's success than any individual honors," Kalbas said. "They want this to be the best season this team has ever had."
