NEW YORK -- Seniors Jordan Gafa and Scott Goodwin received an invitation to the annual Major League Soccer Player Combine on Tuesday, as announced by MLS.
Major League Soccer released its initial list of 54 college seniors who have been invited to participate in the 2013 MLS Combine set to run Jan. 11-15 at Central Broward Regional Park in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
The invited players will be divided into four separate teams that are led by prominent collegiate coaches and select youth coaches. Matches will be played as doubleheaders on January 11, 13 and 15. Each match is closely monitored by technical staff from all 19 MLS clubs.
Gafa started 22 matches at right outside back for the Tar Heels in 2012 helping to set a new school record in goals against. He struck for a pair of goals and distributed four assists in his senior campaign.
Goodwin posted one of the top goalkeeping seasons in NCAA history in 2012 as the senior registered 17 shutouts and finished with a 0.29 goals against average. Goodwin garnered Capital One Academic All-America of the Year honors of his efforts on the field and in the classroom in 2012.
The 2013 MLS SuperDraft is set for Jan. 17 in Indianapolis (12 p.m. ET).
