Postgame Notes
North Carolina 102, UAB 84

  • Carolina is 6-2 overall, 3-0 at home this year.
  • Junior guard Leslie McDonald scored a career-high 24 points and handed out a career-high five assists in his first career start.
  • Tar Heels played without freshman point guard Marcus Paige, who strained his left shoulder in practice on Friday. Paige started the first seven games at the point.
  • Senior Dexter Strickland played in his 100th game as a Tar Heel and made his 67th start, but it was his first collegiate start at the point. Strickland handed out a career-high nine assists tonight vs. the Blazers. His previous high was eight against Maryland as a sophomore.
  • McDonald made 7 of 11 shots from the floor, including 5 of 8 from three-point range. The seven field goals also are a career high and it was the third time in his career that he made at least five three-pointers in a game (5 vs. Long Beach in 2011 and 6 vs. Mississippi State earlier this year in Maui).
  • Carolina shot 71.9 percent from the floor in the second half, making 23 of 32 shots from the floor. It was UNC's highest percentage in a half since shooting 73.5 percent in the second half vs. Arkansas on March 23, 2008. That was a second round NCAA Tournament game in Raleigh.
  • The Tar Heels scored 67 second-half points against UAB, most since also scoring 67 against Chaminade in the second half on Nov. 24, 2008, in Maui.
  • Carolina had 17 assists on 23 baskets tonight in the second half and had 28 assists on 37 field goals for the game.
  • Freshman forward Brice Johnson scored 11 points, his third straight game scoring in double figures (16 vs. Chaminade and 10 at Indiana). It was the fifth time in eight games he has scored in double figures.
  • Sophomore forward James Michael McAdoo posted his fourth double-double of the season with 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
  • Junior guard/forward Reggie Bullock played despite a contusion on his right ring finger (suffered when his hand got stepped on at Indiana) and had a season-high tying 17 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals in a season-high 37 minutes (the only game he played more minutes as a Tar Heel was the overtime win over Ohio last year when he played 41).
  • Sophomore guard P.J. Hairston scored all 16 of his points in the second half. Hairston has scored in double figures in each of his last five games.
  • This was the 46th time in 10 seasons the Tar Heels have scored 100 points for head coach Roy Williams. Carolina is 45-1 under Williams when scoring 100 points.
  • This was the first time UNC played a game against a team led by a former UNC assistant coach (Jerod Haase) since UNC played Roy Williams's Kansas Jayhawks in 2002 in New York in the preseason NIT.
