CHAPEL HILL --- Waltiea Rolle had 19 points and nine rebounds and No. 25 North Carolina shot 54 percent from the field as the Tar Heels ran past UNC Asheville, 101-42, Sunday afternoon at Carmichael Arena. Megan Buckland added 17 off the bench for UNC, who will host No. 16 Ohio State Wednesday in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
A Buckland 2 capped a 15-3 run to open the game before the Bulldogs (1-4) strung together seven straight. But a pair of Buckland 3s and buckets by Rolle and Danielle Butts pushed the Tar Hee advantage back out to 15 at 25-10.
UNCA pulled with 10 a few times - the last coming on a nice finish by Gentry Manley - but would get no closer as the Tar Heels continued to apply waves of defensive pressure. The visitors from the Big South shot just 20 percent from the field for the game and made just four field goals after halftime.
Carolina (6-0) scored the first 17 points of the second half and added another 17-0 run later in the period.
Hillary Fuller had another strong effort in a reserve role, finishing with nine points and five rebounds. N'Dea Bryant also showed some nice flashes of play at point guard, tallying eight points, seven rebounds and five assists in just 17 minutes.
Manley led UNCA with 12 points while leading scorer Shonese Jones had 11, but on 3-of-22 shooting.
There was a scary moment late in the second half when UNCA's Abra Sickles appeared to collapse away from the ball near the Bulldog bench. She received medical attention on the court for several minutes before leaving the arena in a wheelchair with her neck stabilized.
