CHAPEL HILL - With the overlap of fall and winter sports, it can be a challenge to keep up with all the latest news on all the Carolina varsity squads.  The Weekly Primer is your resource to look back at last week and ahead to what's next for Carolina athletics.

MEN'S BASKETBALL:  Carolina kicked of the 2012-13 season with two home wins over the weekend ... On Friday UNC beat Gardner-Webb in the season opener behind a strong performance from James Michael McAdoo ... On Sunday it was a win over Florida Atlantic to improve to 2-0 ... Here are good features from the first weekend on McAdoo and freshman Joel James ... Here's Adam Lucas' take on the Tar Heel freshman class ... In this feature, Lucas compares this year's team to the 2005-06 squad ... UP NEXT:  Carolina will play at Long Beach State on Friday night before heading to Hawaii for the Maui Invitational on Nov. 19-21.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: The Tar Heels opened the season with a pair of home wins to advance to the Women's NIT semifinals ... On Sunday, Carolina rallied from behind to beat Duquesne ... On Friday, the Tar Heels opened the season with a victory over Davidson ... Earlier in the week, previewed the 2012-13 women's hoops season ... UP NEXT:  Carolina will host Georgetown on Wednesday for a berth in the NIT final.

FIELD HOCKEY:  The Tar Heels entered the NCAA Tournament as the top overall seed and won two games at home this weekend to advance to their fourth consecutive Final Four ... On Friday Carolina beat Stanford 4-1 ... On Sunday UNC beat Old Dominion to reach next weekend's NCAA semifinal in Norfolk, Va. ... UP NEXT:  The Tar Heels will play Syracuse on Friday at 2 p.m. for a chance at the national championship.

FOOTBALL:  In the highest-scoring game in ACC history, Georgia Tech outlasted Carolina, 68-50, on Saturday in Kenan Stadium ... Here's Turner Walston's take on the loss ... Here's the latest installment of the GoHeels TV video series, "Hangin' With Mr. Cooper" ... On Friday, Giovani Bernard was named a semifinalist for the Doak Walker Award ... UP NEXT:  It'll be a short week for Larry Fedora's squad, as the Tar Heels will play at Virginia on Thursday night.

MEN'S SOCCER:  Carolina advanced to the ACC Tournament championship game before losing on Sunday afternoon ... In Friday's semifinal, the Tar Heels moved on to the title game by topping Virginia on penalty kicks ... On Sunday, Maryland beat Carolina 2-1 in the final ... UP NEXT:  NCAA Tournament bids will go out on Monday afternoon.

WOMEN'S SOCCER:  The Tar Heels beat Radford in the NCAA Tournament first round ... UP NEXT:  UNC will host Illinois in the second round on Friday, with a possible Sunday date at Fetzer Field as well.

MEN'S TENNIS:  Sophomore Esben Hess-Olsesen took part in the Indoor Nationals in New York City ... UP NEXT:  The fall season is now complete, and the squad will pick up action again in January.

WOMEN'S TENNIS:  Carolina hosted the Kitty Harrison Invitational over the weekend, and several Tar Heels performed well at the annual event at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center ... UP NEXT:  UNC has concluded its fall season and will resume play in January.

VOLLEYBALL:  The No. 22-ranked Tar Heels lost at Georgia Tech on Thursday but rebounded to beat Clemson on Saturday ... UP NEXT:  UNC will host Virginia Tech and Virginia next Friday and Sunday.

WRESTLING:  On Friday night, Arizona State topped the Tar Heels in Carmichael Arena ... On Sunday, 12 Tar Heels placed at the Wolfpack Open ... UP NEXT:  Carolina will face South Dakota State and Nebraska next Sunday in Lincoln, Neb.
