CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The NCAA has selected the University of North Carolina and UNC Finley Golf Course to host the 2015 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Regional, the NCAA announced Thursday. The 54-hole event will be played May 14-16, 2015.
"It is a tremendous honor for the NCAA to select Carolina and UNC Finley Golf Course as a regional site for the 2015 NCAA Men's Golf Regional," says North Carolina athletic director Bubba Cunningham. "We believe Finley Golf Course is one of the top golf venues in the country and we are excited about hosting a number of the top men's golf programs in the country in Chapel Hill."
UNC and Finley Golf Course have played host to many collegiate tournaments over the years. This fall the Tar Heel men's team hosted the Tar Heel Intercollegiate, which will become an annual event. In 2004 and 2005, Carolina hosted the Franklin Street Partners Invitational and in 2001 and 2002, Carolina hosted The Intercollegiate. The Tar Heels also hosted The Intercollegiate in 1991, but it was played at the Governors Club that year as Finley Golf Course was in the midst of an extensive renovation. Carolina and Finley Golf Course played host to the Tar Heel Invitational 1981 through 1989. The only other NCAA golf event Carolina has hosted was the 2001 Women's East Regional."We are thrilled to be hosting the 2015 NCAA Regionals," said Tar Heel head coach Andrew Sapp. "Finley Golf Course is a perfect venue for this championship and our staff does such a wonderful job in maintaining it in tournament condition all year, I know it will be fantastic for the NCAA Regional. With the success of the Tar Heel Intercollegiate this fall, I know our Event Management Staff will run a top notch event in 2015. We look forward to hosting schools from all over the country at UNC and it is a great way to showcase our Tom Fazio-designed Finley Golf Course and our Chapel Hill hospitality."
