Heels Picked Fourth By ACC Coaches
Release: 10/16/2012

GREENSBORO, N.C. --- The North Carolina women's basketball team was picked to finish fourth in the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2013 by the league's coaches and fifth by the Blue Ribbon Panel, the league office announced Tuesday at the annual media day at the Grandover Resort. Duke, Maryland and Georgia Tech were the consensus top-three choices in both polls, while Virginia was ahead of UNC in the Blue Ribbon poll.

Carolina returns a pair of starters from last year's squad that finished 20-11 and 9-7 in the ACC, good for fifth place. The Tar Heels will be led by the senior trio of Krista Gross, Waltiea Rolle and Tierra Ruffin-Pratt.

Sophomore Brittany Rountree, an ACC All-Freshman selection in 2012, should challenge for a spot in the starting lineup along with freshman forward Xylina McDaniel, who was named to this year's ACC Preseason Newcomer Watch List by both the coaches and the Blue Ribbon Panel.

UNC opens the 2012-13 season with a pair of exhibition games on Oct. 28 and Nov. 1 against Carson-Newman and Wingate, respectively. Carolina will start the regular season in the Preseason WNIT on Nov. 9 with a home game against Davidson at 5 p.m.
