CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina cross country teams will compete at the 20th annual adidas XC Challenge on Friday evening at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. The men's race kicks off at 5:30 p.m. followed by the women's race at 6 p.m.
The men and women will each race the 5K loop of the cross country course at WakeMed Soccer Park. The course map can be found here. Admission is free but there will be a $10 charge for parking at the venue. Results and recap will be available on GoHeels.com following the meet.
Last season, Lianne Farber won the women's 5K in 17:00.5 as one of the fastest women's collegiate times recorded on the course. Farber garnered ACC Performer of the Week for women's cross country following the performance. Annie LeHardy, Carolina's current frontrunner for the women's squad, finished fifth in 2012 in 17:18.8.
The Carolina men carded three top-10 finishes at the Challenge in 2012, with Jack Driggs leading the way in fifth (15:08.0) followed by Stephen Mulherin (15:08.5) in ninth and Isaac Presson (15:16.2) in 10th.
The adidas XC Challenge features collegiate races on Friday and high school races on Saturday making it one of the largest cross country meets held in North Carolina. The meet marks the Tar Heels' final in-state competition before the NCAA regional analysis period begins September 27; Carolina's first competition in that analysis period will be the Virginia Panorama Farms Invitational next weekend on September 28th outside Charlottesville, Va.
