CHAPEL HILL - It was another successful week for Carolina athletics in a variety of sports.  Catch up on what you might've missed last week and what's coming up in the week ahead with the GoHeels Weekly Primer.


MEN'S BASKETBALL:  The Tar Heels flew to Hawaii and took part in the EA Sports Maui Invitational last week ... GoHeels TV's Michael Crowe put together a nice video on the team's arrival and time on the island ... On Monday, Carolina blitzed Mississippi State ... Here is Adam Lucas' take on the victory, which included a burst of fine outside shooting by the Tar Heels ... On Tuesday, UNC lost to Butler in its second Maui game ... Here is Lucas' column on what can be learned from the loss ... On Wednesday, Carolina took third place in Maui with a blowout win over host Chaminade ... Here's Lucas' column on the evolving P.J. Hairston ... Also last week, prospect Kennedy Meeks, a forward from Charlotte, signed a Letter of Intent to play at Carolina next season ... UP NEXT:  Carolina will play at powerful Indiana in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Tuesday night, then host UAB on Saturday, welcoming former UNC assistant and new Blazer coach Jerod Haase back to Chapel Hill.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Led by Waltiea Rolle's double-double, Carolina beat LaSalle 85-55 on Saturday ... The next day, UNC beat UNC Asheville 101-42 (photo album) ... UP NEXT:  The Tar Heels will host Ohio State on Wednesday night in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, with live coverage on ESPN3.

FOOTBALL:  Bryn Renner threw five touchdown passes as the Tar Heels beat Maryland 45-38 in their 2012 season finale on Saturday at Kenan Stadium ... Here's Turner Walston's take on the victory ... Here's a photo album from the win ... Megan Walsh wrote about the 2012 senior class prior to the win over Maryland ... Walston also gave thanks for a special senior class ... Rick Brewer looked back at the 1993 Maryland game in his View From the Press Box column ... Jonathan Cooper was named a finalist for the Outland Trophy and won the ACC's Jacobs Blocking Trophy as the conference's top offensive lineman, becoming the first Tar Heel to win the award since 1988.

MEN'S SOCCER:  On Sunday, senior Cameron Brown scored in overtime to beat Fairleigh Dickinson 1-0 and send Carolina to the NCAA quarterfinals ... Here's a photo album from the win ... UP NEXT:  Ninth-seeded UNC will host No. 16 seed Indiana on Friday night at 6 p.m. at Fetzer Field for a chance to go to its fifth consecutive College Cup.

WOMEN'S SOCCER:  The Tar Heels won at Brigham Young 2-1 in overtime on Friday night to advance to the NCAA College Cup ... UP NEXT:  Carolina will face top-seeded Stanford on Friday in the national semifinals in San Diego.

VOLLEYBALL:  Carolina wrapped up the 2012 regular season with a home win over NC State last Wednesday ... Here's a photo album from the victory ... Earlier in the week, Paige Neuenfeldt was named ACC Freshman of the Year and two Tar Heels grabbed spots on the All-ACC team ... On Sunday, the Tar Heels received a bid to the NCAA Tournament ...  UP NEXT:  UNC will face California in Ames, Iowa, on Thursday.
