CHAPEL HILL - There was plenty of action in Carolina athletics last week, despite the football team's bye week. Look back and look ahead with the GoHeels Weekly Primer.


CAN'T-MISS VIDEO:  GoHeels TV went behind the scenes for the victory celebration in the lockerroom after last week's big win over NC State.

GENERAL NEWS:  UNC athletic department staff members helped raise money for schools in Africa by participating in the third-annual Bike to Uganda fundraiser.


MEN'S BASKETBALL:  Head coach Roy Williams paid a Halloween surprise to former Tar Heels Kendall Marshall and Harrison Barnes by traveling to Phoenix to be in the stands for the pair's NBA debut on Wednesday night ... 17 Tar Heels dotted NBA opening-day rosters for 2012-13, tied for second-most of any school in the nation ... GoHeels TV caught up with guard Leslie McDonald to see how practice is going so far in the preseason ... UP NEXT:  Carolina opens regular-season play on Friday night at home against Gardner-Webb (buy tickets) ... UNC also will host Florida Atlantic on Sunday afternoon (buy tickets).

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL:  The Tar Heels blitzed Wingate, 90-52, in an exhibition game on Thursday ... UP NEXT:  Carolina opens the regular season on Friday at 5 p.m. in Carmichael Arena against Davidson.

CROSS COUNTRY:  Carolina took part in the Three Stripe Invite in Cary on Saturday.

FIELD HOCKEY:  The Tar Heels hosted the ACC Tournament and beat Maryland in Sunday's championship game to capture their second consecutive ACC title ... To reach the final, Carolina blanked Wake Forest, 4-0, in Friday's semifinals ... A quintet of Tar Heels earned All-ACC honors ... UP NEXT:  Carolina awaits the announcement of the NCAA Tournament bracket on Tuesday night.

FOOTBALL:  In the team's off week, tailback Giovani Bernard was named a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award, given to the college player of the year ... UP NEXT:  UNC returns to action on Saturday, when it will host Georgia Tech in Kenan Stadium at 12:30 p.m. on the ACC Network (buy tickets).

MEN'S GOLF:  Big news came on Thursday, as the NCAA announced that Carolina's Finley Golf Course will host the 2015 NCAA Regional.

ROWING:  Carolina closed its fall schedule at the Head of the Hooch over the weekend.

MEN'S SOCCER:  The Tar Heels claimed a share of the ACC regular season title when they blanked Boston College, 4-0, on Senior Night on Thursday ... Senior goalkeeper Scott Goodwin was named Academic All-District ... UP NEXT:  The Tar Heels will host Duke in an ACC Tournament quarterfinal match on Tuesday at 7 p.m. with a trip to Germantown, Md. for the ACC semifinals on the line.

WOMEN'S SOCCER:  Three Tar Heels were named first-team All-ACC ... UP NEXT:  The NCAA Tournament begins on Saturday.

SWIMMING & DIVING:  Decorated swimmer Stephanie Peacock was honored at the NC State football game (watch video).

MEN'S TENNIS:  Carolina hosted the first annual Big Jim Russell Invitational over the weekend and three individuals won in singles play ... UP NEXT:  The Tar Heels will travel to New York City for the ITA Individual Indoors.

VOLLEYBALL:  It was a huge home weekend for the Tar Heels, as they swept a pair of matches in Carmichael Arena against ranked ACC opponents ... On Friday, Carolina swept No. 23 Miami, 3-0 ... On Saturday, UNC beat No. 11 Florida State, 3-1 ... UP NEXT:  UNC hits the road for road matches at Georgia Tech and Clemson next weekend.

WRESTLING:  Carolina opened the 2012-13 season on Sunday at the Hokie Open in Blacksburg, Va., and seven UNC individuals placed in the top six in their weigth classes ... UP NEXT:  The grapplers will host Arizona State on Friday at 7:30 p.m., then take part in Sunday's Wolfpack Open in Raleigh.
