Tidbits From Navy Invitational
Release: 10/17/2012

CHAPEL HILL - The Tar Heel women's lacrosse team visited Annapolis, Md., last weekend to take part in the Navy Invitational fall tournament.  The event included 2012 NCAA Tournament teams like Carolina, Navy, Syracuse and Towson.

Inside Lacrosse's Dave Vatz was on hand in Annaopolis and provided coverage of the event.  Here's what Vatz had to say about the Tar Heel squad overall, including the offensive unit:

"North Carolina is a young team as well, and also a couple of reliable veterans in Cannizzaro and Emily Garrity in the midfield. Garrity was running the offense when on the field and looked blazing fast with possession, while Cannizzaro showed good footwork, using a studder [sic] step to throw off a defender and score in the arc."

When commenting on the Carolina defense, Vatz wrote:

"On the defensive end, 5-foot-2 freshman Megan Ward looks very impressive, stopping shots high, middle and low, and at times looked better than current starter Lauren Maksym."

Vatz added an interesting tidbit about UNC first assistant coach Katrina Dowd:  "On a cool note, new assistant coach Katrina Dowd hugged the Syracuse players after the game, it is clear the Orange really liked her when Dowd coaches there."
