CAREER

Has gained over 40 pounds in two years with hard work in the weight room since enrolling at Carolina • Arrived in Chapel Hill at 187 lbs. and weighed in at 228 this preseason • Was one of the ACC's top sixth men last year but is poised to move into the starting lineup with the departure of James Michael McAdoo • UNC's second-best scorer and top rebounder returning from last season  • A smooth shooter with plenty of athleticism who could be Carolina's top offensive big man  • Named one of the Sporting News' Dynamic Dozen players who can impact their team's fate in 2014-15 • Has 28 career double-figure scoring games and two double-doubles  • Shooting 54.4 percent from the floor in 70 career contests.

 

SOPHOMORE SEASON (2013-14)

Led UNC in field goal percentage and blocks, was second in rebounding and fourth in scoring • Finished third in media voting for the ACC's top sixth man Converted 23 of 31 field goal attempts in his last four games Went 62 for 94 from the floor in the last 13 games (.660) Scored in double figures 19 times (10 times in ACC play including the ACC Tournament), including 10 of the last 14 games Blocked at least two shots in 13 games, including a career-high five against Pitt on 2/15/14.

Suffered a sprained right ankle with 14:41 to play in the first half and was unable to return in the loss to Iowa State • Had two points and two offensive rebounds in just two minutes of action before suffering the injury, which occured when he stepped on the foot of another player • Played an outstanding game against Providence in the second round of the NCAA Tournament with 16 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots • Grabbed four offensive rebounds and scored on all four second-chance opportunities for eight points • Started Carolina's rally from seven points down with under five minutes to play with a pair of field goals that cut the Friar lead to three • Earlier he hit two free throws after a media timeout that tied the game at 60, UNC's first points after an 11-0 Providence run.

ACC Highlights: Had 15 points (his highest output in nine games), a team-high nine rebounds and two steals at Duke as he made 7 of 9 shots from the floor • Scored 10 of his 15 points in the first half at Cameron • Grabbed nine of UNC's 20 total rebounds against the Blue Devils • Reverse layup with 2:25 to play was one of the game's biggest baskets in UNC's 63-61 win over Notre Dame • Scored UNC's only two field goals in the first nine minutes of the second half vs. the Irish • Had 10 points on 5 of 8 shooting at NC State and set a great screen on Marcus Paige's game-winning drive to the basket • Made 7 of 9 shots from the floor against Wake Forest • Limited to 14 minutes vs. Duke because of early foul trouble (had three in five first-half minutes) • Posted his second career double-double with 14 and 11 in win at Florida State • Blocked a career-high five shots and added 13 points and seven rebounds in win over #25 Pitt • Made all eight shots from the floor and finished with 19 points (11 in the second half) and seven rebounds vs. Maryland • Was 14 for his last 36 from the floor prior to the Maryland game • Scored in double figures (10 pts) for the first time in seven games in the win over NC State • Scored six of his eight points and had two assists in the first half in the win at Georgia Tech • Was on the floor as UNC built a 10-point lead in the second half despite having two starters on the bench with four fouls • Had 12 points and nine rebounds at Wake Forest.

Pre-ACC Highlights: Scored in double figures for the first time in five games with 14-point, 7-rebound, 3-assist, 2-steal effort vs. UNCW • Had 14 points, six rebounds and two blocks in win at #1 Michigan State • Scored consecutive baskets to break a 49-all tie to start a 16-3 UNC run • Earned all-tournament honors at the Hall of Fame Tip-off • Had 13 points in win over Louisville • Scored a career-high 24 points and grabbed a career-best 12 rebounds (first double-double) vs. Richmond • Scored 14 second-half points vs. the Spiders • Grabbed a then-career-high nine rebounds vs. Belmont • Had 12 points, including six in a key 18-3 run, vs. Holy Cross • Scored 10 points and had five rebounds and a career-high four assists vs. Oakland • Was his first double-figure scoring game since Miami on 1/10/13.

 

 

FRESHMAN SEASON (2012-13)

Played in all 36 games • One of four players to appear in all 36 games • Averaged 5.4 points • Was the fourth leading rebounder on the team with 3.2 per game • Scored in double figures nine times, but not in the last 21 games • Converted a team-high 51.1 percent from the floor • Was second on the team with 19 blocked shots • Averaged 4.1 points and 2.6 boards in ACC regular season play • Played effectively in win over Virginia with six points and four rebounds and a steal in 11 minutes • Grabbed six rebounds in OT win over Virginia Tech • Scored in double figures in one ACC game (10 against Miami at home) • Made 6 of 8 shots for 12 points and added three offensive rebounds and three steals in win over UNLV • Led UNC with eight first-half points against UNLV as the Tar Heels built a nine-point lead at the break • Scored in double figures for the first time in three games with 10 points and seven rebounds agianst McNeese State • Limited to 15 minutes against East Carolina because of illness • Had 12 points, eight rebounds and two assists against East Tennessee State • Scored eight of his 10 points in the first half at Indiana • Season-high 16 points on 7 of 8 shooting from the floor in his first start against Chaminade • Added two blocks and two steals against the Silver Swords • Scored eight of his 10 points at Long Beach in the first half, helping UNC erase a six-point deficit and take a 33-32 lead at the half • Also had a season-high eight rebounds at Long Beach • Netted 12 points in 12 minutes against Florida Atlantic.



PREP
Won Gatorade South Carolina Boys Basketball Player of the Year honors as a junior and senior • Parade All-America • Averaged 25.4 points, 14.3 rebounds, 8.3 blocks and three assists per game as a senior • Led Edisto to a 15-5 record and the second round of the Class 2-A Tournament • Averaged 23 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks in 2011 • Played for his dad at Edisto High School in Cordova, S.C. • Played in the Jordan Brand Classic • Two-time state champion in the high jump • Also played one year as a wide receiver • Member of the National Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
