JUNIOR SEASON (2013-14)

Has scored 106 points and grabbed 106 rebounds in 87 career games • Averaged 5.8 minutes a game this year • Made 11 of 20 shots from the floor (.550) • Scored six points against Wake Forest on 2/22 (had scored two points in the first 13 conference games) • Played 12 minutes (season high in ACC play) at Florida State • Dove on floor late in the first half to get an offensive rebound and feed Kennedy Meeks for a layup that cut FSU lead to five • Made two fine defensive plays late in the first half vs. Maryland • Earned his first career start on 1/18/14 against Boston College, but took an elbow in the forehead from J.P. Tokoto less than two minutes into the game • Received four stitches but later returned to the game • Scored a career-high eight points at Florida State and at Boston College as a sophomore • Played solid defense in win over Northern Kentucky • Matched his season high in minutes with 14 against Davidson • Had four points and five rebounds in a season-high 14 minutes against Texas • Graded out as UNC's top defender in win over Kentucky when he was matched up in a number of possessions against Julius Randle • Scored four second-half points in win over Louisville, including a turnaround, jump hook as the shot clock ran down • Also took a charge that led to fifth foul on UL's starting center.

 

 

SOPHOMORE SEASON (2012-13)

Played in 32 games • Scored 18 points through UNC's first 15 games, then had 36 points in the next eight games • Made 21 of his last 27 field goal attempts • Finished the year 25 for 38 from the floor (.658) 8 Played 11 minutes and had three rebounds in the NCAA Tournament second round win over Villanova • Grabbed five rebounds and had a career-high two assists in the loss at Miami • Matched his career scoring high with eight points in a career-high 21 minutes in the win at Boston College • Was 4 for 5 from the floor and had four rebounds (three offensive) against the Eagles • Tied his then-career high with a 15-minute stint at NC StateScored six points in eight minutes in home win over Georgia TechCelebrated his 20th birthday with a clutch performance in UNC's win at Florida State • Scored a career-high eight points and added four offensive rebounds, an assist and a block in the 77-72 win, including the go-ahead and game-winning points on an offensive rebound and basket with 3:09 to play • Played a career-high 15 minutes (previous high was nine), including the final 5:54 • All four of his offensive rebounds led to UNC baskets for a total of eight points • Came on late in the first half and in four minutes dove on the floor to set up a UNC basket, had an assist and a basket to help the Tar Heels go to the locker room with a lead • Posted previous career bests with four points and five rebounds against McNeese StateAlso had four points against ChaminadeScored two points and had four rebounds in the opener against Gardner-Webb • Played nine minutes at Indiana and had three rebounds and a blocked shot.

 

FRESHMAN SEASON (2011-12)
Played in 23 games as a freshman in 2011-12 • Scored 15 points and pulled down 17 rebounds • Scored a season-high four points against Maryland and grabbed a season-high four rebouds against Nicholls.

PREP
The Western North Carolina Player of the Year in 2011 by the Asheville Citizen-Times • Associated Press all-state selection in 2011 • Played for Coach Jimmy Cleaveland • Set the North Carolina high school record for career rebounds with 1,554 and was the leading scorer in Smoky Mountain High School history with 1,916 points • Averaged 25.4 points and 16.9 rebounds per game as a senior • Two-year team captain • Led Smoky Mountain to a 26-1 record and conference title • Shot 89 percent from the free throw line • Earned MVP honors with 19 points and 15 rebounds in the North Carolina East-West All-Star Game • Also played in the Jordan Brand Classic in Charlotte • Averaged 19.9 points and 12.5 rebounds as a junior.

PERSONAL
Son of Si and Cindi Simmons, both of whom teach at Smoky Mountain High • Both parents played basketball at Western Carolina University and Cindi is a member of the WCU Athletic Hall of Fame • Cindi also is a four-time state championship coach in both volleyball and basketball • Jackson had a grade point average of 4.2 and was a member of the National Honor Society • A member of the show choir that won three national championships • Took part in the school play in 2010-11 • Majoring in exercise and sport science.
